BETWEEN THE LINES Poster

This poster image and design from Fotografiska New York's 2024 exhibition of the artist's first photography show, Phases, boasts an unusually balanced and poised photograph of the gateway onto the Brooklyn Bridge. At once an iconic emblem of New York city and an unparalleled feat of 19th century engineering, the bridge took on a mythical character almost from its opening, announcing a bold new century of modernity and industrialization that took hold of the public imagination and still prevails. Arsham's all but silhouetted composition of looming mass and cross-hatching cables hovers between three-dimensional representation and two-dimensional graphic, becoming something quite other. The artist's signature letter banner design surmounts the image, suggesting something not quite set in time or in space.
